The Mexican Reform

Benito Juarez was a visionary in Mexico who decided that the Mexican government and church had to change their ways. He started a period known as La Reforma. During this time, the mexican military was reduced and the church had to give up some of its land to the people.

These new ideas were met with resistance, of course. A civil war broke out. Eventually, France became involved. More on the subject can be found on the "Power Struggles" page.
